Paravac
An Internal Parasiticide
Eagle Peak
Herbals is a family business in Eagleville, California, a ranching community
at the base of the Warner Mountains on the western edge of the Great
Basin. Owned by Tina and Bill Hodge, they bring several decades of experience
in applications using herbal remedies in both humans and animals.
Livestock
producers themselves, they have had a need to control internal parasites
in their own herd. After many years of experimentation, which is still
ongoing, they have settled on a formula which has now been tested many
times on their own animals. They have used the California State Laboratory
to document results through a licensed veterinarian. They market it
as "Paravac." All ingredients are either organic or
wildcrafted. Eagle Peak is in the process of acquiring organic certification.
Through
their contacts, other veterinarians have used their products successfully,
and have done tests themselves on other herds in other parts of the
country. Bill and Tina are more than willing to provide interested parties
with details of these results and the names and coordinates of the veterinarians
involved.
Anecdotal
evidence is encouraging, with animals making dramatic improvements after
herbal treatments, including weight gain, increased immunity, improved
coat and skin condition, and higher energy levels.
In addition,
in trials with dairy animals, it has been observed that there is no
change in milk flavor or production levels. Also, producers of organic
meat in Australia, which allows chemical parasiticides in organic production,
are anxious for an herbal alternative because the chemical parasiticides
kill dung beetles.
This combination
of herbs has been used on humans, llamas, goats, cattle, cats, dogs,
and ducks.
The successes
documented by lab results include beneficial results with the following
parasites:
Very effective:
coccidia
trichuris (whipworm)
ostertagia and haemonchus (stomach worms)
cooperia
Somewhat
effective:
nematodirus
trichostrongyles
They are
anxious to expand testing to see how effective Paravac is on other
parasites, since they realize there are over 3,000 possible internal
parasites in mammals alone.
Paravacalso
has anti bacterial, anti protozoan and anti fungal properties, which
address the problem of infections caused by dead parasite bodies which
are left after chemical treatments kill them.
Protocols
for different animals are still being worked out. Initially, Bill and
Tina administered dosages several times a day on individual animals,
but later work has been done mixing it in drinking water or mineral
supplements. Dosage and duration is still being tweaked, since they
realize that treating large numbers simultaneously for as little time
as possible is the only efficient way most large producers will want
to use their product.
