Eagle Peak Wildlife Care thanks you for your purchases
Adult Bald Eagle
For 38 years the Hodge Family has made it a priority to take in injured and orphaned wildlife from the remote NE corner of California. This year Tina and Bill have made the hard decision to retire from Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education. They will continue to lend support through consulting with the various agencies and other rehabbers as well as networking and providing transportation for wildlife in need. They are currently involved in an investigation of how certain chemicals are causing birth defects in raptors. Every year Eagle Peak Wildlife Care has taken in dozens of birds and animals in need of a help to get back to the wilds. We greatly appreciate your purchases and generous donations that have made this labor of love possible. Our lives have been deeply enriched by this work and we are grateful to every creature that has come to us. Thank you!
A photo essay about two lucky hawks:
" Thanks for the support folks," says this young Northern Harrier hawk.
Two days after arrival at Eagle Peak Care Center
"My little brother and I were in sad shape when the fish and wildlife service brought us to Eagle Peak Wildlife Care Center, but with lots of attention and some delicious minced mice we grew stronger by the day.
Feeding without imprinting
Bill and Tina Hodge wore hawk masks and didn't speak while feeding us so that we would not imprint on humans."
"As we grew stronger were allowed to exercise in the herb garden with our surrogate moms (stuffed toy animals)."
Hunting skills start with grasshoppers
"We grew rapidly and learned to hunt grasshoppers."
Two day old Northern Harrier
"In just 38 days from hatching we went from scrawny little chicks to...
Young adult 38 days after hatching
fully fledged adults."
Exercising wing muscles
"After many exercise sessions to build up our wing muscles we were ready for release...
Released to the wilds
and away we went to find new nesting grounds in Surprise Valley."
